Dear friends in Christ,
Happy Friday, my friends, and what a joyous time for the Church as we welcome our new Holy Father,
Pope Leo XIV! Let us pray for him as he begins his Petrine ministry that the Holy Spirit may accompany him on the mission that awaits. We all share in that same mission – to make Christ known – by virtue of our baptism, and so please move him to the top of your prayer list! You'll see the gold and white bunting over the doors to the church this weekend as we continue to rejoice in God for the gift of our new shepherd.
Ad multos annos, Papa! I didn't think much could top our 40th annual CtR Spring Festival last weekend, but I guess a new pope does qualify. Not much else though! Under perhaps the most perfect weather conditions we ever had in 40 years, CtR and the greater Cypress community again united to celebrate our families, our friendship, and our faith, and what a celebration it was. The joint was jumping Saturday night and all day Sunday with great food, wonderful fellowship, and fun for young and old alike. Speaking from a purely personal standpoint as it was my last Festival as pastor, what a way to go out. It was just about perfect from start to finish! Please see my full comments in the
bulletin link below, and
know of my great thanks for all who joined us, and especially for those who worked so hard to make it a success. We'll have a full report in a few weeks, but for now I'm simply filled with gratitude for all. Thank you, one and all!
In other news, we wish a
blessed and happy Mother’s Day this weekend to all of our mothers on the
4th Sunday in Easter. Moms hold a special place in our hearts and we need only look at the example of Jesus to know that love and respect for mothers is an age-old tradition in our faith. From the wedding feast at Cana to the hill at Calvary, Mary was always present in the life of her son. In a special way we ask the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on all mothers, both living and deceased. And let us not forget the wonderful gift of life that grandmothers, adopted mothers, step-mothers, foster mothers and Godmothers offer their children. We'll have a Mother's Day blessing this weekend, and our Knights of Columbus is offering breakfast in the Parish Hall for those at the 7 and 9 a.m. masses.
The whirlwind of activity in May continues this weekend as we celebrate two masses of First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 10 at 8:30 and 11 a.m. for 168 of our young children (as a result, we'll not hear confessions on Saturday morning). Then this coming Monday and Tuesday, May 12 and 13, we celebrate back-to-back masses of Confirmation for 200 of our high school students. We congratulate all of our young people and their families on receiving these most important sacraments in the Church!
Peace, Fr. Sean
